The International 12 Metre Class’ 2019 World Championship got off to a light start yesterday. Despite the light winds – sails were looking pretty lofty – something I never tire of photographing. Hosted by the Ida Lewis Yacht Club in conjunction with the 12 Metre Yacht Club – it is the largest-ever gathering of 12 Metre yachts in the US with more than two-dozen boats from seven countries. The teams boast an impressive roster of elite sailors, including America’s Cup veterans and Olympic medalists that represent Australia, Canada, Denmark, Finland, Italy, Norway and the United States. The fleet includes 7 America’s Cup defenders and challengers with 12 Metre Yachts that span 1928 to 1987.
